Conky’s flashy new emoticons

Post by Conky »

Split from various posts near this one by jdaw1 at suggestion of AHB. Conky’s “that† refers to Martinez 1955.

Image I'll have that.

Jules is gonna love these Emoticons.

pointlessly flashy epileptic-unfriendly emoticons

Post by jdaw1 »

Actually, this thread is to list port for sale by retailers, not for pointlessly flashy epileptic-unfriendly emoticons with a target audience of illiterate teenagers.

Julian,

Surely with your newly discovered Admin Superpowers you could split the needlessly flashy emoticons and put them into their own meaningless drivel thread.

Consider this a request to do so, if necessary.

I didn’t do this until someone else had requested

Post by jdaw1 »

Edit: this was in response to a since-deleted post.

Exactly because I don’t like distractions from the text, I didn’t do this until someone else had requested. Didn’t want to be accused of chasing my own agenda, sort of thing. But given an arm’s-length request, not prompted by me, I felt that I could act without the appearance of impropriety.

Mmmm... difficult one.

With only two off-topic posts followed by an objection (by the administrator who split it), I would not have split this topic. I have received requests to split before and not done so as I thought that it was a small deviation. The objection and request were what extended this to a splittable topic.

Conky is right about the rules. We do not want to turn this into a stuffy site, even in the more serious areas of Tasting Notes and Port Conversations. However, if a thread gets out of hand then it should be split. I do not think this was the case here.

So:

1. JDAW, please be more tolerant of minor deviations, especially when it is one of your own beefs. Splitting should only happen when a thread has got out of hand;

2. AHB, please try to accept the odd deviation as well - one or two off-topic posts does not require a split;

3. Conky, please try not to get too upset when one of your posts ends up being 'admistered'. The three administrators are trying their best, it's not a conspiracy.

Now, let's get back to Port and fun.

Alas can’t agree with that, sorry

Alas can’t agree with that, sorry. The “let's get back to Port and fun† is made insuperably difficult by being at the port-free mother-in-law’s. ;-)

I have decided that if I delete Conky's posts at his request then I think that all other posts that showed fits of pique should also be deleted. I will do this only if this is acceptable to JDAW and AHB for their posts. There seems no need to leave a little argument hanging around without all parts of it.

As Conky has asked specifically then his posts are deleted.

Conky can, of course, edit his own posts!

Post by jdaw1 »

Didn’t feel I could delete this whole thread without all parties consenting. (Differentiating deletion and separation.) No objection to deletion; no objection to leaving. Conky can, of course, edit his own posts!

And, happily, I have been told that the mother-in-law’s is not port-free. But will be in a few days, if you know what I mean.

I have only just noticed this thread - it seems I can't leave you guys unsupervised for 5 minutes

For the record, I agree with everything Admin says above.

OK, back on the original topic of this newly created thread and also a little bit of background that nobody had previously.

These posts were originally included in a thread titled something along the lines of "Port for Sale by Retailer" but had raised a different and separate topic, that of new emoticons. I wished to discuss these emoticons, but felt that they deserved a new thread of their own instead of being discussed in the port retailer thread.

I have no idea what the process is that is used to add emoticons to those that are generally available from a phpBB bulletin board (the ones to the left of the typing area as I write this post). However, we have seen evidence elsewhere that it is possible.

Equally, I have no idea how to add an emoticon to a post other than by clicking on one of those pictures to my left.

Now I use very few emoticons in my posts, mainly for no reason other than laziness. However, I would like to see a larger range made available if we can. Some of the ones that I see on FTLOP (the bottle filling the glass is one of my favourites) are quite amusing, but for me what would be critical is their size. I like the ones that are to my left, but don't like the ones that Conky has used in his first post on this newly split thread because of their size and domination of the message.

I should add that my comment above about the size of Conky's emoticons was not an indication that I thought they should be banned or anything, rather an enquiry if they are also available in small so that they would be consistent with the other emoticons already available as standard.

Smiley Packs

Post by jdaw1 »

It is relatively easy for the creator to add what are called “Smiley Packs† to the BB. And they are easy enough to find online.
