1963 Casa do Douro Colheita (bottled 2003)
Bottled 2003. Deep honey brown in colour with a slight green rim. Gentle on the nose, not giving much away other than a little tobacco with typical colheita VA. Thick in texture but with little flavour other than brown sugar, although late on the palate there is some odd bitter tobacco ash. The spirit burns on the aftertaste before giving way to a burnt sugar finish of considerable length. This lacks acidity and focus but could be quite pleasant as a component in a 20 year old tawny. 82/100. Drunk 23-Jun-14.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
