If someone had told me before the tournament that Germany would win the world cup I would have admitted him to a lunatic asylum. With all the injured players that could not join the team I thought that the last 16 would be the end of the tournament for Germany.
I still cannot believe it. In the the last 24 years I doubted if I would ever see a night like this again in my lifetime.
The 2014 Football World Cup

Re: The 2014 Football World Cup
Germany were the most consistent team in the tournament. The victory over Brazil was a fluke and was mainly down to Brazil falling apart, but Germany were clinical enough to take advantage where many other teams would have failed.
I didn't realise until tonight that this was the first victory since re-unification. I like that because it puts even more of the past firmly in the past.
Enjoy your evening

In other news, the German post office will issue a commemorative stamp to mark this event:

Whose feet are those? One will be pleased, one not.
Re: The 2014 Football World Cup
Those are the feet of the unknown footballer. As the team was the star in our case, I find it quite fitting that they didn't single out one player for special praise. I think Argentina would have put a picture of Messi on it's stamp.jdaw1 wrote:Whose feet are those? A massive picture of Joachim Löw embracing Messi should be put up in front of the Reichstag. Inspiring.AW77 wrote:Those are the feet of the unknown footballer. The BBC has picked up the story of the stamp as well:

(But I think that TPF had it first.)

Another title this year:
The U19 team won the 2014 UEFA European Under-19 Championship:

So hopefully a new generation of players will emerge to play in the 2016 European Championship or the 2018 World Cup.
