1963 Offley

Post by jdaw1 »

1963 Offley Boa Vista
At the generous instigation of Alex B.: “Please, no-one bring anything except where I have asked for help. This is supposed to be a cellar reduction party so I am happy to supply various bottles for us to share. A handful of people know some of what will be brought, but I'll serve all bottles blind.”

So we went to a Helen-less Bung Hole to meet Amy — who had just left for the day. (No problem: we met her two days later.)

O63, magnum. Brick red to red, 40% opaque. Nose had strawberries. Good mature port, but slightly unbalanced, the acidity showing too prominently.

Another of the magnums bought by Tom Archer from the Sworders sale of July 2014. Mature brick-red with a watery rim. Gentle pepper on the nose, mature but slightly oxidised and with a bit of alcohol showing. Nice texture, lovely flavour with very pleasant mature fruit. Grows beautifully on the palate, mature and extremely pleasant. Lovely spicy finish, delicious and lingering. This is a really nice port on the palate - elegant and very mouth-filling. Nice port. Served blind this was guessed to be Dow 1960. 89/100. Drunk 26-Aug-14. 4 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
