It seems to be claret night tonight.
Opened about two hours, initially closed with a dusty inexpressive nose. It is very dark, perhaps it is browning a little but remarkably well coloured for a nearly twenty year old wine.
As it warms up it is improving, opening up and the rather tart tannins retreat and it smooths out with food most noticeably. Not much fruit whichever way you look at it. A little at the back perhaps. Plenty of life left in it, indeed I would say that another five, even ten years would do it no harm.
Proper claret but no great shakes, about 88 points, a little too austere, buttoned up.
