1995 Chateau La Pointe

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Lovely rich red appearance, deep red but with no bricking. Vigorous nose with lots of fruit leading the way. Neutral entry, hollow and initially lacking in flavour. The mid-palate has a balance of fruit and tannin but is really dominated in the end by the tannins. The finish is chewy but a little lean, led by woody licorice root and aniseed. This is still rather lean and needs at least another 5 years to flesh out. 86/100. Drunk 15-Apr-15.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

1995 Château La Pointe: bigger than the ’55 and ’70, but less well balanced, and rougher.
