From magnum. Mature bronze-red colour with a wide rim and 30% opaque at the centre. Dirty on the nose, very spirity with little fruit and a touch of acetone. Smooth entry, bringing fruity caramel with gentle dry tannins that just make themselves known before slipping out of sight. Most of the structure and support for the palate comes from the acidity. This is surprisingly dried out and lean of fruit on the palate, with the lean and dry tannins augmented by some volatile herb extracts. The hot, lean finish has a very good length. This is a very disappointing showing for what should be a good wine. 85/100. Drunk 23-Apr-15.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
