2013 Dow Senhora da Ribeira

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

900 cases made. Cask sample. Purple and opaque. Powerful nose of fresh blackcurrant fruit, slightly astringent and promising a lively acidity on the palate. A fresh herbaceousness edge lifts the fruit on entry, a prelude to some lovely silky tannins. On the mid-palate the tannins gain in power and weight, wrapped in the sweet fruit. The acidity promised on the nose is modest with a lovely elegance being the overall impression. Dry and tannic on the aftertaste, full of dark chocolate and sour blackcurrant. 90-92/100. May-15.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
