Sainsbury's have offers on some ports. Graham's Crusted is £14. Both in store and online.

Re: Port for sale by retailer
A very sound idea. I think that with all my various discounts my last purchases cost me about £12/btl. This is hardly shabby in comparison.

Re: Port for sale by retailer
Sainsbury's now have the combination of their ports discounted (including Graham's crusted '98 at £14 and Malvedos 2001 at £23) and their 25% off when buying 6 or more wine/fortified/etc offer concurrently.
Re: Port for sale by retailer
Thanks for the heads up Phil, I availed myself of the six bottles on the shelf today, although clearly I need glasses as rather than the 98 I picked up a mixture of 02 and 03-still, can't complain! Incidentally the 25% offer has been extended until Friday.
Re: Port for sale by retailer
Yes, thanks Phil. One Sainsbury's had no Crusted at all, but some Malvedos 01. The next had a mixture of 04 and 06. I wonder if the 98 is gone then? Still, all worth a try at those prices, I thought. Especially as the first Sainsbury's gave me a £6 off voucher off £60 voucher, promptly redeemed for port in the next supermarket!

Re: Port for sale by retailer
I liked the Berry's Crusted 07, which I guess is the same as the Dow's Crusted 07 on offer at Asda at £12.50.

I was able to secure some bottles earlier today via online website. Will call shop to confirm this is in fact the case.

Berrys are advertising 10% off port. Not sure if this is all port or just some of it. I can't help noticing that the Dow 85 is on the list at the same price it was pre offer.

Re: Port for sale by retailer
I may have been the culprit who bought out their inventory for the dow 2011 vp. I called and they said they were 4 bottles short fulfilling my order but I was getting a discount of 15% from my purchase price. 72.75 is pretty close to what I was paying on pre order and pretty far from the current average price of 128 on winesearcherpro. Happy to open a bottle with you in about 25 years lol.

Tesco have 2003 Sandeman Vau for £17 a bottle, down from some other price which was higher, also Dow Bomfim the 2001 (I think) for £21, maybe £22 a bottle down from about £28.

In an email, Corney & Barrow wrote:I noticed that you had bought some ports from us before and we have a case of 1985 Fonseca on our broking platform that I thought may interest you. I adore port and the 1985 Fonseca is drinking beautifully at the moment. Not always considered the longest-lived vintage in the Douro (for long lived ports, I would look at 1994 – gorgeous, dense, but need a long time), I have a real fondness for 1985s and especially the 1985 Fonseca. I tasted it twice last year and both times just felt it was at a beautiful, totally pleasing stage of indulgence. No rush to drink it, but why wait?
1985 Fonseca @ £648 per case of 12 bottles including all taxes.
The 1985 Fonseca is still youthful in appearance with hardly any ageing on the rim. The nose offers kirsch, sloes and Christmas cake. With time, there are subtle notes of dried fig and dates beginning to emerge and add to the complexity. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully balanced on the supple, rounded entry. It is not quite as complex as the aromatics, with dates and dried fig, the finish mellow and refined. It is very elegant for a Fonseca, weighty but supremely well focused. This is a fabulous Fonseca that is ready to drink now, but will age for another 30 or 40 years. Drink now-2030+.- Neil Martin

Aldi selling 50cL Maynard's 1990 Colheita Port for 15 pounds. Starts 21st May until stock runs out. I would be curious what the bottling date was. Good price if recently bottled.

I just came across a link to a Daily Mail article on this; some lovely quotes within, such as:griff wrote:Aldi selling 50cL Maynard's 1990 Colheita Port for 15 pounds. Starts 21st May until stock runs out. I would be curious what the bottling date was. Good price if recently bottled.
From the label shown in the image, this claims to be a 1990 colheita, aged for 25 years, so that should make it a recent bottling. The Daily Mail wrote:In 2014 the store was responsible for 11 per cent of all 30-year-old tawny port, which is aged in a casket instead of a tank, sold in the world.
Re: Port for sale by retailer
This was available for tasting at the BFT and whilst it wasn't in the same class as the 1989 white colheita next to it, nevertheless was a very good, smooth and not overly sweet colheita. So when Griff provided the heads up I went round the corner to the Aldi near work last Friday and availed myself of four bottles-two of which have already been consumed (one with the aid of the mother-in-law). As with the bottles at the BFT (although that was 75cl), these are 2015 bottlings and so genuine 25 year old colheitas. If you want some however, suggest you'll have to be quick to judge by the fact that there was only 6 or 7 bottles left on the shelves after my 4 four. Nice, modern bottles as well.PhilW wrote:I just came across a link to a Daily Mail article on this; some lovely quotes within, such as:griff wrote:Aldi selling 50cL Maynard's 1990 Colheita Port for 15 pounds. Here's another recent "old stock" release by TFP which may be of interest to some on this board...

A friend alerted to me to this SV03 offer on Friday and so I did similar to JDAW today and secured six bottles-although due to the wife looking at me askance I had to leave the other two or three bottles to fight another day. Next door to the SV was a single bottle of the T85 at £40 as Tom had highlighted although I suspect (as Derek had suggested) that they might hold more out back.

If buying wine online from Tesco use their "Wine by the Case" service, not "groceries": http://www.tesco.com/wine/product/detai ... =284743884jdaw1 wrote:Tesco: “Sorry, this product is currently not available.”
"Groceries" come from your local store and will be replaced with something else if they do not have stock or will generally be unavailable during a sale. "Wine by the Case" comes from a central supply depot and is more likely to have stock.

Rubbish corks in the Vau - centre stripped with a good corkscrew, necessitated some jiggling (and joggling) to get the remnant out of the bottle.

Very much enjoyed at a party last night. TN not taken but it had a little mint, pepper and cedar, felt silky in the mouth and was very good. If you plan on leaving these for 10 years, good luck to you. I'm sure they will be good then but I'm not sure I'll have any left then.
