1985 Graham

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Appearing to be at the start of the plateau of maturity, this is a deep rose red colour around 50% opaque. The nose is delicious, attractive and full of spiced fruit but still with plenty of juicy fruit. The texture on the palate is lovely and the flavours are balanced with the fruit dominated by a strawberry jam. There is a nice level of complexity added by the floral undertones but the sweetness never quite feels balanced. The heat on the aftertaste gives way to a long and sweet finish. This is drinking nicely now and was a better showing than the bottle opened the previous night as part of the 1985 Horizontal. 88/100.

Tasted at the Berry Brothers Port Walk on 26 November 2015.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
