A Life or Death Emergency - Monday 4th April 2016

Post by DRT »

I have been insanely busy at work recently and my 51st birthday on 28th March has somewhat crept up on me.

Those who know me well know what needs to happen if I am to see another year out and it must happen on 4th April at the very latest. As I cannot be in London before the 4th it will happen on the 4th.

I will be at The B&F at around 18:30 on the 4th with a bottle of life preserving 1965 VP.

Please join me with a bottle of VP if you can.

The theme is: bring a bottle of VP, blind or sighted.

Can someone please volunteer to take control of arrangements and this thread as I have another week of madness to navigate between now and then.

Regrettably I am also away. If we can make it across the French/Belgian and Belgian/Dutch borders without too much delay I will be in fairly close proximity to Axel's haunts!

No worries, chaps, JDAW and I have formed a quorum so all should be well for another year.

It's my birthday. Please may I have a starter-sized portion of the Grilled scallops and bacon with tiger prawns, spring onion and chilli, followed by Chargrilled sirloin steak (medium rare) with hand-cut chips and grilled tomato?

As much as I would have loved to join you, however, as you know we share a birthday and my beloved wife Jan has dragged me to New York for our Anniversary on 26th...(did not see Daniel) followed by a little ride down to Barbados on a cruise ship....our birthday will be celebrated in quite different ways...me all at sea with the best Royal Caribbean can do is a Dow 2007 LBV...yours I suspect will have something a little more palatable...enjoy!!

Happy birthday! My 1965s are reserved for SCP-DFS, but I shall toast your health with a 1985 instead in the hopes that you will continue to act 20 years younger than your chronological age.

Added to placemats.

Ian, Alex, Tom, Simon: if you are going to reveal a year (as DRT and I have done) or a shipper or both, please do so. And please post your food order (menu).

My food order is no starter, sirloin steak (medium rare) with chips and a side of peas and beans please.

All I will reveal about the bottle I plan to bring is that I want some other expert opinions as to whether it is genuine or not.

Happy Birthday Derek!

May I tentatively reserve a place (dependent on leave and house move plans)? I shall know for certain on Friday/Saturday whether I can attend, menu requirements and vintage selection.

For my food order I'm going to veer (slightly) away from my standard by opting for:

Starter-Truffle Mac

Main-Corn fed chicken supreme w crispy pancetta and hand cut chips and with a side order of peas and beans

Dessert-on the night

I'm afraid I don't have anything from '65 to offer (had a TV up until last year whereupon it was drunk on the occasion of a friend's 50th) and so will play safe by saying it will be something from 1970.

Food wise, could I have:-

Potted Shrimp
Black and blue steak with a side of spinach

Port - something from 1970

Looking forward to Monday already
