Thank you all once again for coming and for making me feel so welcomed! I’ll be definitely coming to and hopefully organising more of the tastings!

Special thank yous to Julian for helping me with so many things (basically I wouldn’t have done it without your suggestion for a setting a tasting and holding my hand throughout), to Neil for super printing (that paper was amazing! Maybe don’t leave your job yet) and to Glenn for the whole sorting of the wines (we wished you were there for the tasting), and to Alex for great tasting skills (looking forward to tasting notes and please send my regards to Elizabeth)!

And to the rest of the you guys thank you for making an effort and for making this evening very special!!!

What a wonderful evening that was, such delicious wines. So much so that I’m inspired to continue drinking White Port this evening. Thank you Nelly for such a great theme; thank you Glenn for your curating of the tasting. And thank you everyone for a fun dinner.

I was accused by a number of churlish losers, of going off bottle shapes. That conveniently overlooked the fact that I was still scoring points on wines where the wines were not in their original bottles and they weren’t!

It is even more remarkable given the changes to the lineup that occurred behind the scenes. Scoring 8 points in a lineup that contained 7 x 10 year olds would have still been impressive, but given a strong theme throughout the middle it wouldn't have been that extraordinary. However 3 of those wines did not appear for various reasons. (Lamelas, Prelada, and S. Leonardo, for what it's worth.)

I'm not surprised the 2003 Kopke was POTN. It is fantastic. My only regret for all of you is that there was no 2008 DR Colheita Branco to give it a run for its money. And to also give you another 500ml stubby bottle to throw off any bottle-sized guessing going on!

How did the Barao de Vilar fare? I've never had it - nor heard of it - so am curious. At one point it was going to be tasted side-by-side with the 1989 Palmer to see if they are, in fact, the same Port.

It was very pleasant, I scored it 89/100, but my opinion and the group opinion was that there were better wines alongside it.

Are you 2 talking about the Barao dr Vilar 10 y.o. white? I stumbled across that at a Portuguese supermarket a few years back. I bought one, tried it and immediately went back and cleared their shelf. IIRC it was around $17 for a 500ml bottle. It's really good stuff. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any more and I'm down to 4 bottles.

We were talking about the 1989 Barão de Vilar White Colheita - but it’s good to hear about the 10yo White. I’ll keep an eye out for that in the UK.

Thanks Alex. I didn't know they made a Branco Colheita. I just checked Wine-Searcher and they look like they're only available in Europe. I love white Ports, so hopefully they'll pop up in an auction or at a random store in NJ.
