I was lured in by ex quinta six packs of Warre '80 and '85 as well as Graham '80 and Dow '85.

Also, curiosity got the better of me by way of a Noval '82 and two Dow '70, the elders w somewhat poor fills.

There is a Warre 80 and 83 at the sask liquor store for ~95 CAD/btl. Are either worth it at that price?

I believe there are better things you can buy at that price, and I wouldn't spend that much for either of those.

If that equates to approx. £65, i don't think that's a bad price at all if provenance is good - even in the UK. Of those i think i prefer the Warre 83.

You're only going to be able to make big savings if you buy by the case or from auction.

Given the ongoing harumph regarding TFP buying out Krohn I bought a few colheita.

two 1991s, two 1982, a 1978, a 1968 and last but not least two 1964 branco.

Somebody on this forum was very excited by the 1964 Branco, I hope I am too.

I am very unsure about white port as a concept. So I will probably just look at them in confusion until someone offers to take them away.

I know , both have a questionable reputation to say the least, but it's always a bit of a gamble, which I got at a reasonable price. And the good bottles (non-corked) of D77 seem to be very good (according to the reviews, never had it myself before), and I have had the Roeda 1983 before and it showed quite good and was very enjoyable.

Cases of Ramos Pinto 1994 and Fonseca 1985. The latter vintage continues to be relatively unloved apart from Graham which is priced away from the rest of the pack. I have tried the F85 twice recently and was a little underwhelmed on both occasions but the power and complexity is there. Thus, the purchase was based on the hope that the wine will emerge from a T85 like dumb phase in a few years.

Apart from that, what has happened to the price of T97? Why the sudden price hike?

Picked up a few more 2011's on a trip to the states. 6 Vesuvio, 9 Fonseca, and 9 Taylors. Starting a port collection is a daunting task! TIme to back off and just look for deals now.

Not much has happened to the price of T97 as far as i can see...I paid £225ib for a 6-pack a few years ago and it still seems to be available on the UK retail market by the case for about the same.

BBR have had some listed at a very high price for quite a while now (and that tends to lead a few other merchants to price similarly), but i don't think it is indicative of the wider "market" price if you decide you do want some!

Among other odds and sods I have recently come across a 1944 Royal Porto Colheita. Love the sparkly letters

Back on the topic of T97, i definitely think there has been an upward creep in prices. FRW quotes in line w BBR and prices on Wine Searcher (non pro) also seem to hover around the same level. Thus, i wonder if this has had some positive reviews lately, in spite of '97 being considered to be generally lackluster.

BBR have had this wine listed at a high price since about a year ago and i'm not sure it is representative of what people are buying and selling at in the wider market.

For instance, a couple of weeks ago there were cases listed at under £500 at three merchants (including Nickolls and Perks, who had a case at £460dp), now there are cases at £495 (though never heard of the merchant) and £550, and no doubt in a few more weeks there will be more coming and going.

A more representative data point might also be the big lot that came up at Sotheby's recently (mid-November), where 6 or so cases went for £430ish hammer (£500ish including bp?) - though I must admit i'm not sure whether this was ib or dp.

If you were wanting to buy some in the next 6 months, i'd be confident that you'd still find a nice case for under £500...but we'll see!

The cellar they are from is quite extraordinary. All of the port I have had from this cellar are the best examples of the vintages I have had. Basically these 63's were bought in the early 70's and never moved from a natural cellar until I took ownership. I have a few 750's of '63 Dow from the same cellar and wow!!!

Thank you both. I did earn it: not many in the trade have defeated the IVDP on a point of bureaucratic stupidity, but I have. And many shippers, including the Taylor Fladgate Partnership, now do sell new releases in large formats. Hurray!

Thanks also to Taylor Fladgate, who had only ten F85 Imperials, and were keeping them for use during a forthcoming Fonseca anniversary. The TFP was not under any obligation to sell any: thank you for doing so. And at a generous price!

I came across a small parcel of Cockburn 1927 owned by a downsizing elderly lady whose grandfather had bought and cellared these more or less on release. They have been stored in a damp, English cellar for the last 85 years, and are now in my wine cabinet - £70 per bottle since she is delighted they will be enjoyed by someone who loves port as much as her grandfather did.

Actually I think the 1896 was his favourite. But he certainly bought into 27. He lived a long and happy life once he became Duke of Denver.
