Have you tried one? I was rather disappointed with the last two I tried- the 2011 and 2012 but that was a few years ago. They seemed much worse than the mid-2000 editions. I hope they've worked on the blend since then.

Amazon has some daily deals on various Port today. 15-20% off.

Warre's Quinta Da Cavadinha Vintage Port Wine 2004/2005 75 cl - £28
Graham's Crusted Port in Carton Port Wine, 2013, 75 cl -£ 15.81
Graham's Quinta Malvedos Port 2005/2006 75cl £22

And a few others (20cl of Graham's Tawny, Dow's and Graham's White Port).

Currently got a bottle of the 2013 open as my “kitchen port”. Quite pleasant. Nothing special. Was also purchased for <£10.

Tescos have Graham's Malvedos at £20 a bottle. Unsure on the year... presume 2005/6.
Asda have Bomfim also at £20 a bottle. Again, presume 2005/6.

I was in Tesco on Monday. They were carrying the 1997 Tesco Finest Vintage Port for £20 without any discounts. If they do the "buy 6 and get 25% off" offer inclusive of Port, this would be a top tip.

Finest VP on tesco.com is the 2007. Wonder if this is just a local offer where they’re getting rid of old stock? Definitely worth keeping an eye out for.

I don't go into Tesco very often, but if they have some when I next visit, I'll buy a couple of bottles for you.

Waitrose are knocking down the price of the Warre LBV (07), the Sandeman LBV (15) and the Vargellas (02?) by between 20% and 25% currently.

That's good. I went back into my nearest Tesco yesterday and found that they have changed their stock and now only have the 2007 vintage on the shelf.

The Warre 'discount' is from a deliberately inflated price, so not really a discount. The discounted Vargellas price is reasonable, but the lack of a quoted vintage really annoys me.

The Sandeman is the one to go for.

Morrison’s have reduced their Own Label 10YO Tawny from SFE from £12 to £11.

This is probably one of the best own label 10YOs around in the UK.

Something a bit different: Churchill’s have started https://port.club/ which is a subscription-based Port delivery service.

For £240 p/a you apparently get 4 deliveries of three bottles: “1 x Anytime Port”; “1 x The Right Time Port”; and “1 x One Time Port” which is, intriguingly, a “Unique Club Blends bottled only for member shipment.” There are also a load of discounts for things in Portugal / virtual tastings etc.

Strangely, I can’t see any details of bottle sizes on the website. If they are in 50cl bottles (which Churchill seems to like a lot) it wouldn’t be bad value at £15 a bottle, but I would be a lot less tempted if they are halves or even 20cl bottles.

I got that mailshot too - but I found the detail too vague, to sign up at the price.

50cL bottles would fall short of my expectations, unless very special.

Amazon currently has Grahams crusted 2013 on sale for £15, if you subscribe to their monthly "Subscribe and Save" plan for 5 items or more you can knock off another 15% (£12.75), I add a few bottles to make the cat food cheaper - atleast that is my argument when confronted :-) .

Port for sale by retailer - Fonseca Crusted 2007

Post by nac »

Amongst some other bargains in their current sale, Nickolls and Perks have some bottles of Fonseca Crusted 2007 at £16.20 per bottle retail.

Have purchased one (and some other bits) as don’t have anything else suitable for the planned Crusted tasting.

Justin K you are not alone, ASDA has form regarding such offers. I have just, for the third time, tried to place a mainland order for the Dow Crusted and the Cockburns LBV at £10.00 and once again got as far the checkout only to be advised "Items are not available or de-listed"!  Maybe someone might find them in store.

Have had similar issues when attempting to order online from Asda. It appears that stock isn’t held centrally and you only find out what’s actually available once you confirm a delivery address.

Sent an offer this morning by Fine & Rare - Quinta das Carvalhas, 1917 Colheita.

20 bottles available at £1,325 per bottle in bond. So, a case of 12 delivered would be just over £19,100. Bargain.

If you want the full details let me know. I await a deluge of enquiries...

My Asda has three less bottles of the Dow’s Crusted (but bottled 2013) and now has an empty shelf area instead. Plenty of Graham’s 2015 LBV at £14 (I think) and Cockburn 2015 LBV at £10.

Have tried repeatedly to get the Cockburn LBV from Asda, but they never have it. Suspect your local Asda has the entire UK stock.

Nothing left in my Asda (I even asked the assistant to check out back). I suspect that Asda are going the way of M&S and dumbing down their Port range which is a little concerning; it's pretty noticeable the amount of shelf space given over to rum, gin and vodka compared to the fortifieds.

The producers are as guilty as the supermarkets.

Portugal vineyards tell me vintages often change (especially for LBV) without any notification from the producers - they just run one year out and start shipping the next..

Not Port, but thought I'd flag this up as it's a 1961 (which I know some TPF members are interested in) and quite good value.

FRW have just sent me an offer for 1961 Rivesaltes Ambre Heritage Du Temps, Domaine Singla - £185 in bond for a case of 3 x 50cl bottles.

If anyone wants full details email or PM me your email address.

I’ve just been getting some of my Port delivered from in bond and saw that Uncorked were selling Fonseca Quinta do Panascal 2004 at £129.42 for six, duty paid which seemed to me a pretty reasonable price so I bought some. They have 9 cases left.

Bloody hell. Costs €90 in Garrafeira Nacional, and that's probably the cheapest one available here in Portugal (most other places are €100 or more). £45? For that price I'd buy two cases.

I don’t think there is a tasting attached, but there is a great chance to taste some Colheitas from different decades by the VWP team together with Palmer ports.

Palmer Decades Port Tasting Pack
Colheita (Single Harvest) Port from 1940 (white), 1950, 1962, 1970, 1982, 1990
6 x 60ml - £119.00

And if that is more than you would like there is an aged tawny pack offer with some bonus young colheitas instead at £49.95
