Then you need to listen to 5Live Sports Xtra from 1.40 this afternoon and relive it all blow-by-blow. I also went to bed at lunch. When I woke up, I saw the score.

Yes, have some of this (strangely astringent) G70 with me as I celebrate no longer being 40.

This will be interesting. Very interesting. Wasn't aware we were two down already; I admit I didn't check the score this morning (I was afraid to look).

Wrong word. Embarrassing would have been better. Only hope is a rain dance - and a very long one!

Not at all considering the next Test starts in three days' time. Bring in Bairstow? They're not flying anyone out. Push Root up to 3 again? Disastrous idea. Bell? Terrible idea. Pietersen? Maybe.

I must say that all the fuss being made about Australian's saying nasty things about English players is very amusing. Get over it.

But now they're mocking the afflicted. Anyway they cried foul when we pointed out how rubbish they were for the last five years. Perhaps all's fair.

Well said.
What we don't need in world class sport is a bunch of Jessies complaining that someone on the other team called them a nasty name. And we also don't need press with double standards, but there doesn't appear to be anything we can do about that one.
So, Team Engerlund, man up and get on with working out how to make the Aussies look like girls in the next test instead of looking like big girls yourselves.

Opinions are not the same as knowledge. Being a Somerset man I guess I would put Compton up front with Carberry at number 3 with Kieswetter or Joss Butler to replace Prior as well.

I wonder that you take such an interest in 'rounders', with its emotional instability and womanly attributes.
Carberry's main problem is that he is 34. Still he looked pretty comfortable against Mr Johnson and he was only one of 3.

They amount to the same thing, taken over time. So would you say it's made you more into exploring your feelings? Feminine side?
I'm not sure who else they have got out in Australia, I think there were a couple of batsmen and the performance squad is touring as well.

Julian will be along shortly to point out the difference between being uninterested and being disinterested.
In the meantime, are you sure the whole performance squad are there? So that means all your little darlings are there too? I wouldn't have Compton, the Australians will break him. Kieswetter is potentially another 90s county star unable to excel in Tests (he's been variable in ODIs): perhaps a Ramprakash. Buttler is interesting but it's hardly the place for a debut. Shuffle them about and bring in Bairstow.

There are people who claim to be disinterested, but who appear to be uninterested only when England are winning.

Or one of his contemporaries such as Hutton or Boycott.

Of course, what we need is another medium pacer to shake the Aussies up a bit. Who is not that much of a bat either. I am unconvinced by Compton but I think he scored more centuries on the winter tour than anybody else. He was dropped because the selectors wanted to 'look to the future' and have now replaced him with a 34 year old.

That's easy.
Here at Microsoft we have a concept called a "non-goal." When completing an assignment, a non-goal is something that isn't specifically assigned and shouldn't be deliberately worked on, but if it happens as a side-effect then that's a good thing. Something that specifically should not happen is called an anti-goal.
Uninterested is a non-goal. If it happens to be on TV, you'll watch, but you wouldn't turn on the TV to watch if the TV happened to be off.
Disinterested is an anti-goal. If it were on TV, you'd turn the TV off.
It's just not cricket

I'd have reversed the analogy. The two words rely on fundamentally different uses of the word 'interest'.
Disinterested means I have no vested interest - as in, some way I benefit from something, that's to say, if I am disinterested I am neutral and impartial. A disinterested observer of a dispute is someone with no connection to either party.
Uninterested just means that I couldn't care less.
