Atrocities!

Someone beat me to the F77s so I didn't get those. I did get 6 x 1997 Niepoort, 2 x 1977 Taylor, 1 x 1966 Graham, and 3 x 1985 Graham.

Jason did say mysteriously that there will be more F77s eventually, though, so perhaps he knows of another shipment that isn't fully arranged yet.

I hope this trend continues, and we start to see some better prices on the younger vintages!Things like the Noval ’97 have been going (in retail) for nearly double that amount, recently, which is completely insane.

Given that our Maturation Tasting presently has a 1991 Vargellas, would it make sense to acquire this instead of seeking out a Taylor 1970?

I am WAAY over my wine budget (DAMN THE OLD BORDEAUXS!) and the wife would kill me if I showed another 100$ bottle floating on the credit card.
If someone wants to pick this up, I can split the costs in cash =)

I would be interested in splitting the cost of this one with you depending on when this tasting takes place. Is there a date set for this tasting?

In Derek's absence, do you know whether these Krohn are the vintage port or a colheita? This has been a source of confusion in the past.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

It is good to know I have you guys riding shotgun for me 88) Thanks!

If these are VP then the answer is a definite "YES, I NEED THEM". However, if they are Colheita the answer would be "No thanks, I already have some".

Julian, would you please be so kind as to enquire and act accordingly?

They've had some of these before and I do believe they are the Colheita. I know the Rocha is a Colheita and its often a source of confusion when they list them (and the Kopke) for sale. as the front of older bottlings of these are the old painted stencil front label and all they say is "Rocha 1977 Port" or "Krohn 1965 Port", so that leads to all the confusion. On the back labels is the bottle dates.

It's a Colheita. I just called them. I noticed that the listing was already down to 1 bottle left, so figured I'd call and order it for you immediately if it was a VP.

Thanks, Glenn - the K65 VP is extremely rare and is the only VP from my birth year that I do not have. If you ever see one please give me a shout. If you see one for under $100 don't even bother shouting - just buy it on my behalf

If I find it for $100, I just might buy it for myself! Wine-searcher shows only 2 bottles on the internet, both in Portugal, and they're $380 each.

Some sales (which seem noticably poorer this year than in the past):

Anyone know what a Cockburn "Joanna Label" bottle is?

We had one of these at the Cockburn vertical. I think it is just the standard Cn67 but carries a special label as it was produced for or in honour of someone named Joanna - presumably a family member or friend of the owners of Cockburn? The TN has pictures of the label.

The Joanne label refers to a pipe of Port which was bought for Joanna, presumably commemorating the year of her birth or perhaps of her Christening, by her Godfather. In buying a pipe, he was able to persuade Cockburn to label the bottles purchased with the "Joanna" label. The bottles have been stored by Berry's since they were bought and only came back onto the market in 2008.

They are nice examples of the Cockburn 1967, but I leave it to you to decide whether the Cockburn 1967 is worth £40 per bottle.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Not quite "port for sale", but close enough to make this the right place to post this advert I received a few minutes ago from Davys

Sounds like a very decent price to me, especially with the current pound/euro ratio. Buying 12 might be a bit optimistic though.

The C67 was excellent and I have since bought cases at auction. Well worth £40, especially for those with income in non-GBP non-ZWD currencies.

Has anyone phoned them to see what they are serving? I can’t imagine that you would get much for £15!

The planned ports are:
Graham's 6 Grapes
Graham's LBV 2003
Graham's 10 Year Old Tawny
Graham's Crusted Port bottled 2001
Graham's Malvedos 1998
Graham's 2003 vintage port
Graham's 1983 vintage port

So if the pours are reasonable, this would seem to be fair value for money.

Thanks for that. It will probably be a fun evening; I hadn't realised that they were just doing Grahams. Unfortunately, I'm already double-booked for the 27th, otherwise I'd have been quite tempted to go!

The others don't jump out at me as being particularly great, but $50 for the 1994 Dow is down quite a bit from the middle of last year when it was in the $80 range in the US.

WS97 is a good score for 94; only fonseca, Taylor and Nacional were higher. If you like Dow style, it's a great buy. I'd buy but i've got 3. I didn't get nearly that good a deal on them.
