Just for the avoidance of doubt, my attendance is confirmed for 23 September 2014 but as a matter of curiousity, what conflicting event forces the regular principals into such a declinature (or is it very 'secret squirrel')?

They've all been asked to go to Buckingham Palace to inspect the annual purchases for the royal household.

Function room booked, for 6-8 people; am assuming that given our number we will be eating in function room, rather than needing a separate table outside.

Excellent, thanks Phil!

If there's room in the function room for 6-8 people to eat, then we might as well eat in there and save TBH the extra table.

Excellent, we stand at 5 with a 6th who is hopeful. A solid quorum. Even more excellent is that I believe I will be meeting all in attendance in person for the first time.

I think that with just 5 or 6 people we should keep it simple and do a "Bring a bottle to share"-theme.

That seems wise, as with only 5 or 6 we might have difficulty sourcing a complete vertical of Ferreira from 1811-present.

Since I will be coming from the US and might have access to bottles not normally seen on the East side of the pond, do any of you have requests for what I might share? I seem to have rather a lot of brown sticky stuff in my cellar, for example.

As the usual suspects are away, we could do a tasting of only the "brown sticky stuff". After all, you're organizing this event and if you like Tawnies best than that's ok for me.

I think a mix of types would be good. Have the attendees tried the 1952 Dalva Golden White before? I have a limited and treasured supply.

1952 Golden White is one that I think I have had only once, at this year's BFT.. What a beautiful wine it is. A bottle of that shared with new friends would be amazing.

The wines at the BFT were the Dalva Golden White 63 and 71, the 52 is the one they didn't include, and would very much like to try; nice idea Glenn, ty :)

Had the Dalva 52 in Vinologia a few years ago (sadly no longer available there). Lovely drop of juice although this does up the ante somewhat (though there is time)!

CellarTracker appears to be out of date. It says I have 4 x 750 left, but I do not believe that is the case. I may have 3 left, and one of those 3 may be a 500.

At any rate, it seems a suitable bottle for Daniel's magazine theme.

Oscar is planning a party to celebrate the restoration of foot treading at Quevedo, which sounds great fun. He has provisionally pencilled this in for Sept 23rd.

The date can be changed to suit, but I'm a bit worried about pushing it back, as flowering was early this year, so the harvest may also be early.

- Thoughts?

This complicates things somewhat. I would love to be there for that. But presumably he's not going to be able to fix the date till quite near the time. With various harvest tours already taking place and booked I'm sure there are those (eg, GEE) who wish he'd hold off a day or two..

I think he's looking to fix the date now - my guess is that the 23rd is the optimal date to target, given this year's flowering date.

I can do nothing to change our plans as we are limited to BA's flight schedule. We can only fly to Porto on Thursday, 9/25 if we are to have any time in London and still make the Harvest Tour.

That's why I started planning for this in January.

Where is Oscar planning his celebration? If in the Douro, it probably won't matter as I doubt my schedule would allow anyway.

In the Douro for sure.

Oscar has explained his rationale for choosing the 23rd to me, and I don't think there's much scope for moving it. We may have to settle for parallel events.

As I got a ticket for the BBR-port walk I have changed my mind and will now fly over to London in November. So I'm not attending this meeting at the 23rd of September. I explained this to Glenn in a PM.

Well, actually I discovered today that I booked the cheapest tarif at Germanwings and thus will neither get a refund nor be able to rebook my flight.
So I might as well pop over as the ticket will expire anyway.

I have booked a hotel for my stay today, so I'm definitely coming.

So now what should I bring along? I thought of a 1992 Andresen Colheita (bottled in 2011).
Why? Because our convener prefers Tawny Port and because I really like this Andresen. It's liquid marzipan.
There is also a TN of a 2007 bottling of this Colheita here:
http://www.theportforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=13519

Would this be ok for all participants or should I aim at more "prestigious" port?

I had planned to bring a very old white/tawny (knowing Glenn's preferences); however since the event is "variety" and Glenn has already stated he will be bringing a Dalva Golden White '52, I'll bring an old VP.

We have Variety (VP and Tawny and White) and Life (per Derek's usual birthday theme, 1964 for me) likely covered. Someone needs to cover Spice and we'll be set!

So that'd be... Vargellas? Niepoort? What Ports generally have notes of either black pepper or Christmas spices?

For the record, there will be a 1964 Niepoort Garrafeira and a 1964 Graham's Malvedos at TBH on the night in question, but they're intended to leave the building intact. The Malvedos to possibly be consumed at Malvedos during the Harvest Tour, and the Niepoort to possibly be shared with Dirk (also a 1964 vintage) somewhere on the Harvest Tour. Failure in either case ending with the bottle returning to Seattle with me.

Given your specific suggestion, I could bring a Vargellas '69 of which I have a very small stash (my birth year; and would leave the field wide open for others to bring other VP/Tawny)?

I would not say no to a 1969 Vargellas, but I don't think there's any need to break into your birthday stash.

RAYC and WS1 added to the list.

Bottles under discussion also added, with preceeding (?) if I couldn't tell for certain whether or not they were commitments.

Haven't heard from flash_uk or djewesbury yet.

I'll probably dig out a G66.

My name is Glenn E., and I approve of this message.

Hello. My name is djewesbury and I'm an... no hang on that's not right..

I have to think about what to bring. I'm away from home for the next six weeks; though that's a stupid thing to say, I have my entire collection up to last Thursday in a spreadsheet that's one click away. Rob hints at the Taylor 64 Col - I mean, Single Harvest Tawny.. And Mike mentions a G66, both of which up the bar. I had a notion of a mag of S70; or a Ni 34 Col just to see if it's any good. Give me some guidance on how our theme is shaping up so far.

Are we still trying to persuade Owen to come..?

I think Rob was referring to the T64SHT, rather than TV64.
