I gather England is playing at the moment. Presumably Sri Lanka are the boys in blue. Score looks a bit odd but it's not the first time that England have lost two wickets for one run.

Taylor 1985 update:

0-0 draw in first game - bet lost
Spain to win the tournament - bet lost
England to go out on penalties - all hope is lost
Germany to qualify for final - still possible
Aguero to be top scorer - needs to get a shift on before the Dutch pair get too far in front

Possibility of Taylor 1985 six-pack tasting now very long odds and would require a miracle from England, Germany and Aguero to get their fingers out and the Netherlands to win the tournament.

Update on Derek's bets:

Germany to reach the final - £25 @ 5/2 = £87.50 return -

Argentina to win the cup - £30 @ 9/2

Netherlands to win - £25 @ 16/1

At worst, getting all my money back. At best, winning a free case of wine.

Not too shabby considering the miserable start.

This is a subject about which I know and care little but having watched a bit of the second half I thought it just looked like a very odd and stilted game. Quite surreal. So I will just get back to reading Sarah Waters 'The Paying Guest'.

I still have a chance of recovering my money if the Argies win, regardless of how. My wallet is saying Argentina, but my head is saying Germany as they have been by far the better team to watch.
