You can always tell with Daniel. The louder he yells the wronger he is.

Gentlemen: I was about to say “nicey nicey please”. Then I realised that DRT’s “+(>0, <2)” meant that one person and only one person agrees with Owen’s criticism. So maybe it was nice. Maybe even intentionally.

Quite correct. Apologies to Professor Jewesbury.

Owen was chewing on a wasp after Tony McCoy's disastrous last day at Cheltenham. You can always tell.

All I have posted here are my own conjectures. If other people get a little incontinent with their certainties after they've self medicated I feel only sympathy for them.

Apologies all round for any offence in my unfortunate remarks. A shoddy bottle of Tesco 94 is no defence.
Any idea when Tuke Holsworth stopped making vintage port? The most recent I can find on the internet is from the 1940s but I seem to remember seeing one from the fifties in the past.

This was the point I made about the precise time of death. I think that Tuke continues to surface as LBV and other low rent port but the days of it being name checked in Lord Peter Wimsey novels is long gone (The Nine Taylors FYI).

I have a 1980 TH in my cellar.

And I see that there is a 1987 Tuke Holsworth available on wine searcher. I thought, for no reason I can remember, that Tuke was sold in America rather than Europe these days.

I can't ever recall seeing TH sold in America. It may have at one point, heck maybe even now, but if it is there isn't much sold here.

Not to contradict your point because I think it's generally true, but my 1980 TH came from the Grocery Outlet in Bellevue. Lisa saw a bunch of them there so cleared them out at, as I recall, about $28/bottle.

Not contradicting at all. I personally can't recall ever seeing it actively sold here. Though I've seen the odd bottle pop up at auction and the like. But that is very different than actively being imported and sold on a regular basis. I'm curious where that market got them? Were they brought in gray market or by other similar means? Or did someone in Portugal go "Hey, I've got these old bottles lying around do you want to add them to your shipment of other things for this one time deal?"
Do you by chance know who the listed importer is?

Not off the top of my head. I'm about to do an inventory and re-packing of my refrigerators, though, so I'll try to remember to check when I run across it.
'Cause at the moment, I have no idea where it is. LOL
Edit: took a look around and found it. Imported by A. W. Direct, Inc., Novato CA. That's directly on the back label, too, not on a separate importer's sticker.

Appears they bring in wine they can get on the cheap from just about anywhere. I suspect that is what happened here when someone in Portugal did what I mentioned above.

When I was living in Boise, TH VPs for 95, 99, 2001, 03 and 07 were all available at roughly $20-$25 a bottle at various points at grocery outlet over the 2+ years I was there. IIRC it's been a Sogevinous or Sogrape brand for quite some time now.

Yes it does still seem to be a Sogrape brand.
Looks like the report of the death of Tuke Holdsworth, like that of Samuel Clemmens, has been much exaggerated. Wrong again, ho-hum.

The fairly well-known painter of natural scenes and young male nudes, Henry Scott Tuke, was a member of the same family.
EDIT: I have a feeling I've mentioned this somewhere before. Someone will no doubt be able to tell me. Go on, I'll time you.
By the way, does an Admin want to split off discussions regarding Tuke Holdsworth into a separate thread? Perhaps they could be joined onto the one from Dec 2011 on the same topic?
