You guys go ahead and buy all the multiple cases you can, I am already content with the singel bottle of Croft 1991 (just under 50 euro) that will make its way to Muscat soon. :)

Yet to try the 85, having taking a full itinerary of our bottles I came to the conclusion that more drinking Fonseca's were needed, it was delivered today so may try a bottle in the next month, mind you after the head this weekend from the 7 bottles opened it may be a little time before I'm on par again!

A dozen Dow’s Quinta do Bomfim 1998, at €25 each, from the Epicerie Anglaise that has just moved to 11 Rue Taylor. Yes, I know.

Each came in wooden box with a perspex front. Four plastic fronts were badly damaged, three lightly damaged, and five unbroken. By email a Symington was informed of the difficulties with this packaging. Fine juice though.

1985 Sandeman for my horizontal. I now have 23, Derek has 1 for me, and I know of 7 more available on the internet though most of those are either too expensive or too difficult to obtain (primarily EU).

Horizontal tentatively planned for 2015.

The '85 is many years away from being a "drinking Fonseca". It is a brute and probably will benefit from another 10-20 years of cellaring before it hits its peak.

But, having said all that, I plan to open one this year as I am dying to find out how it is these days.

Well now that I've browsed winesearcher.com again the list has grown!

I already have in my cellar:

Warre
Kopke
Gould Campbell
Barros
Smith Woodhouse
Offley Boa Vista
Cockburn
Dow
Cálem
Quarles Harris
Quinta Do Infantado
Martinez
Hooper's
Ferreira
Croft
J.W. Burmester
Fonseca
Taylor (Fladgate)
Quinta do Noval
Graham
Churchill
Ramos-Pinto
Sandeman

You can thank CellarTracker for the wonderfully random sorting.

In addition, Derek found a Real Vinicola that he's holding for me, giving me a total of 24 at the moment. The ones that I know exist but don't yet have (from perusing wine-searcher.com again just now) are:

Quinta do Noval Nacional
Niepoort (this might be a Colheita)
Fonseca Guimaraens (really? okay... there are multiple listings)
Fonseca Quinta do Panascal (double really?? listing in Belgium)
Ramos Pinto Quinta de Ervamoira
Royal Oporto (which appears to be distinct from both Real Vinicola and Real Compania Velha)
Real Compania Velha
Messias
Morgan
Delaforce
Osborne
Quinta da Romaneira
Robertson Rebello Valente
Borges
Feist
Romariz
Porto Rocha
Kopke Quinta S. Luiz
Quinta do Crasto (listing in Belgium)
Rozes
Pocas
Souza
Hutcheson
Van Zeller & Co (listing in Germany)

And of questionable accuracy in the listing(s):

Dalva (probably a Colheita)
Presidential (almost certainly a Colheita)
Manuel Almeidos & Filhos (probably Real Compania Velha - picture looks like a special "birthday" bottling of some sort)
Martinez Gassiot & Co (probably Martinez)
Harvey's (almost certainly an Aussie stickie, but listed as Portuguese)

This is Martinez. For some strange reason Martinez used the brand "Harvey's" for some time in the USA.

And just for completeness, Marc J. says that Gilberts also produced a 1985 that he's tasted before.

I probably ought to have this in a separate thread, but 4 years early seems a tad overambitious for it to be in the Organizing Tastings and Get-Togethers section.

Glenn,

I can help you with some of the gaps:

Niepoort (not a colheita)
Pocas
Morgan
Delaforce

I can also add two extras:

M. Gonzales - not Gonzales Byass, and as far as I know, a producer who only made one VP
Q. Sabordella - recently aquired, case as yet unopened, and a bit of a mystery!

Glenn, a merchant that may be able to help fill some gaps is winenose.nl. He has Niepoort, Romaneira, Osborne and Van Zeller in stock (as well as Burmester, but you have that already). I never ordered from him, but heard his service is good. It's a mail order company, so he'll probably ship to wherever you like. If I find anything else I'll let you know!

Cheers,

At auction, last sunday I won (via earlier posted online bids):

5x Dalva 1977 Vintage port (at Eur0 188 incl buyers premium)
7X Fonseca 2000 Vintage port (at Euro 329 incl buyers premium)
I'm happy :D

Too bad I (just) missed out on some other lots (a 1966 Taylors VP, a 1948 Burmester VP and a 1957 Kopke Colheita), but that's the risk of laying in the bids beforehand. On the other hand, it also prevents me bidding too much during auction in all the excitement :? .

I payed the regular price of GBP 1.050 for the 24 btls, but would underline this three-year-intensive-study.

The F85 is an excellent wine, which is remarkably young and powerful. I would state that this would even outlast the F94 (for half the price) and underline that one never can have enough of this.

Looking forward to tasting this early April.

Clawhit - where did you the Martinez and the SW?

I've just got a case of Smith Woodhouse 97 however since I got it out of the bottom of my son's wardrobe where I've been hiding it for the past couple of years, I don't think it counts...
