I've just bought the only 3 Taste The Difference Vinateg Port 2003 that were in my local Sainsbury for £15 each. I'm not in desperate need of more 2003 vintage port (even though this is very nice stuff) so if anyone I see regularly would like them at cost, please let me know by PM - first come, first served!SCP wrote:Spotted in a Sainsbury's, although not available online. BBR have some Delaforce 1994 listed at £25 per bottle all-in, which strikes me as a good price for this port - especially considering the provenance (i took a couple of bottles, there are 9 left)

Re: Port for sale by retailer
A bit late to the Sainsbury 2003 TTD thread, but having ventured out yesterday (Sunday) just before closing time, the local 'big' Sainsbury had a decent enough stock still left but more to the point were offering a further 25% off per 6 bottles purchased. This means they come in at £11.24 a bottle. Suffice to say that I availed myself of 18 bottles and indeed was half-tempted to pop around at opening this am, to mop up some more (unfortunately I mentioned to the wife what I'd done!). I also noticed the 1999 Malvedos was down to £25, although am not sure whether this is part of the 25% off deal.

Re: Port for sale by retailer
I rarely shop at Sainsbury's as there's not one close by, but out of curiosity dropped into the one in Bishop's Stortford today. No sign of TTD, or vacant shelf space where it might have been, but 25% off six bottles, and you can pick and mix if you want to.I also noticed the 1999 Malvedos was down to £25, although am not sure whether this is part of the 25% off deal.
Malvedos 2001 was already reduced from £27 to £23, so the 25% off took it down to £17.25. As 2001 is (IMO) one of the sounder SQ years, this seemed a good deal, so I picked up half a dozen.

BBR have 10 bottles of their BBR own selection 1977 VP (Quarles Harris) up for sale at £50 per bottle (link).
I bought a case of this from them last year at a similar price per bottle - stored since release in BBR cellars. Have had a couple of bottles and am rather pleased with it - shows young compared to other QH77 ("ready to drink with room for improvement"...). Certainly worthy of a mention here as a well-priced and reliable buy.
Bizarrely, BBR are selling recent ex-cellars Quarles Harris 77 proper alongside it at £80 per bottle...

Sainsbury's has the Graham Malvedos 01 on offer at £20 (instead of usual £27), which after their 25% off on 6 bottles or more for wine/champagne/fortified (till Friday) works out at just £15.00 per bottle

I have co-workers who will be visiting the shop some time in the next 3 weeks. They are instructed to bring back 3 bottles for me: a Green Spot, a Yellow Spot, and a Green Spot 10-yr old.

Six bottles of the malvedos secured although it took trips to three different Saintsbury's in order to do so-they don't seem to like stocking more than one boxed bottle on the shelf! Not sure but I think the deal expires today.

Re: Port for sale by retailer
I rang them before doing my regular online shop.
"Do you have this in stock? Definitely? Because every time I order it it gets substituted for Graham's Crusted 04.."
"Yes we have 4 in stock at your delivery store and we'll put them aside for you."
Then 3 minutes later they rang me back and said they had loads in stock, cases of the stuff. I have some already so decided that 4 (bottles) were enough.
Today, they delivered and explained that there were only 3 in stock.
What gives, J Sainsburg?

This caused me a bit of surprise when I came across it, although I know there was not much Graham Stone Terraces made I was very surprised to see Prestige Wines offering bottles for £276 each! They were offered at about £80 per bottle initially (if you could find some). Wine-searcher says there are still some available for £100 per bottle if anyone is really desperate.
Prestige WInes is an interesting shop though. Might be a bit pricey, but has a far larger range of shippers than you normally see in the UK.

Tesco is at it again; with the twenty five percent off if you buy six the 1994 Tesco finest is £13.49 a bottle. The Bomfin 2001 should be about £16.90. Don't let them tell you fortified is not included in the sale, it is (at least in my Tesco).

Sorry for my ignorance, but is Tesco a port house or a store? I'm fairly confused as I have not seen it in Canada. Also sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.
Re: Port for sale by retailer
Tesco is a largely UK based supermarket chain.
Incidentally, Saintsbury (another UK supermarket) has Graham's crusted (2001 I think) at £14 a bottle-from £20.

They are also doing a 25% discount for buying six bottles, although my local store has no POS material advertising the fact. They also have a £5 'helping hand' promotion going that encourages you to re-visit within a week.
The £22.50 price for the Bomfim '01 is listed as a discount from around £27, although I think the un-discounted price was a bit contrived..
However, I've just bought six bottles for £135, less 25% less £5 = £96.25 or £16.04 per bottle, which seems a decent deal

In Waitrose this morning the Waitrose own label 2011 vintage port was from Quinta de la Rosa (£30) and Sandeman 2008 LBV (which I have been very impressed by earlier this year) has just been discounted to £12.79 - great value for an LBV which will improve with a few uears of bottle age.

Sainsbury's are at it again-25% off if you buy six bottles and above. The Graham's Crusted 2001 is already down to £14 (from £20) thus a price of £10.50 per bottle ! Their 99 Vintage is also already reduced to £20 (from £25) and so £15 a bottle.Offer lasts until 10 December (I think).

BBR have 4 bottles of 2011 Nacional available at £750 per bottle retail (c. £625ib).
There have previously been two allocation rounds by BBR at £395 and £495ib. Not sure whether the decision to sell some on the website was a conscious strategy or due to lack of uptake on allocations (i suspect the former, actually).

For those of you in the South of England, within driving distance of Basingstoke, BBR has put bin ends of port from between 1970 and 1994 -- mainly SW, GC and QH -- on sale in its Basingstoke shop, at 25% discount. Available, I believe, to callers only.
There are, or were, a couple of dozen 1994 Warre as well.
I've more or less accepted that my existing 1994 Port won't be fully ready for another decade, so I left the Warre alone, and just bought the Graham and Dow from the 1970s and 1980s. Somehow, I shall survive the torn labels when I can buy 1970 Graham at a discount.
Later,
John

At that price, it is difficult to go wrong. Buy a case of both, and enjoy over the mid-term, or if you only want to buy one of the two, I would go for the Guimaraens.
