From Quinta de Santa Eufemia. There was some discussion whether this could be the same wine as the Casa Santa Eufemia Reserve White which is known to be from the 1973 vintage, although never registered as a vintage wine with the IVDP. However, there was nothing on the bottle to indicate either vintage or bottling date.
Barley sugar brown colour at the centre with a green rim; 20% opaque. A gentle nose of honey and lime with hints of fresh lavender. A lovely entry, sharp acidity keeping the balance at first, but the acidity becomes too dominant on the mid and late palate. Mouthfilling, but delicate in the subtle flavours. The effervescent flavours explode on the aftertaste before a big burst of quince that brings and unbalanced bitterness to the long finish. Interesting to try. 84/100.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.
2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports.
