1985 Dow
1985 Dow
Thirty years after harvest we held a small horizontal of 1985s.
Re: 1985 Dow
D85 An impressive perfect cork pull by CPR. Lovely dense strong fruits. First tasting to me still appeared closed, but with more air, a later tasting was much nicer. I think this wine still has time to go before showing its best and I hope to have a nicer example in the future. 90 points

Red, but with tones of mid-maturity; 60% opaque. Lovely fruit on the nose, soft and gentle. Nice balance on entry with delightful balance and freshness although the acidity quickly builds up to searing levels. The acidity fades to allow a rich and flavoursome focused fruit palate to show. A lovely finish, full of sweetened cranberry. Very fine port. 92/100.

D85. Bright red, 50% opaque. Light and soft, and very dry. But lovely.
Later I added “Too dry.”
