Let's do it all over again. I'm over for ten days at Easter, and last May's tasting in Chelsea was so wonderful that I'm moved to suggest we hold another tasting in the same restaurant. My dates are the 24th March to the 2nd April though obviously Easter weekend itself is in the middle of that and may not work for everyone.
Who's in?

Great. Any dates that definitely DON'T work for you, from Fri 25th March [Good Friday] to Fri 1st April, inclusive (that excludes the dates on which I fly)?

Last time it was atonal music. What's the betting it will be something like "Phenomenology and the Etruscans" this time?
Owen, I wish you'd get on a plane from the Somersets and join us. Your thematic skills would be so welcome.
No thoughts of a theme yet. Any ideas?
(We can always just bring a blind bottle…)

I need an excuse to open one of my 1994 Fonsecas since I have had them since release and I have never tasted it, and my wife hates port so we do not drink it at home. This could be an excuse.
I have recently returned to s/c india, but expect to be in nyc from march 24th-april 2nd, the only dates i know now that would not work for me would be the 24th and 31st
April 1 works, pre 1990 works.
would be great to catch up with everyone (jay hack!?! long time no see, broseph)
Has this thread died, even after the intervention of Doty? Cmon New York, what gives huh?
I'm now going Upstate between the 28th and 30th or so.. 1st is still a possibility for me.
People stand up.

But you should write a review, describing the Ports you didn’t taste, the people who didn’t come, the restaurant you didn’t visit, etc.
Perhaps there could be an art installation (empty room) displaying them, to run alongside this and here; I seem to remember a similar piece in Cologne also. If it proved valuable, I have plenty of similar pieces in my loft which would available to offers.

Suggestion: you choose a theme for which you can provide all the bottles; provide all the bottles; choose a fair price and tell the others of it; they to bring $.

mini Graham vertical '70, '77, '83 (can add '94 if enough attendees)
total bw participants $220 (add $65 if '94 needed)
Theme/price appealing enough?
Also, how do i get into that group of NYC port tasters? Was looking and could see the people in it but couldnt find my way into it.
Your bottles are great, we have ourselves a nice lineup forming here.
And w your gang we'll def have critical mass to make this happen.
Options for venue... Thinking we'll have to go more upscale than usual. Apr 1st will be a Friday, It'll be restaurant prime time.
Anyone have an issue w steak? Wolfgangs in Tribeca has a separate room that we could try to get for ourselves. The Palm in midtown has some nice rooms too. If we end up being more like 10 or under we could prob go for something like the private room at Aldea (portuguese restaurant so especially appropriate).
What we really need now is a proper show of hands.
Anyone can send a PM to the people in the NY tasters group, see if anyone else is in? Chris, can you get a show of hands within your friends? Ill do the same on my end.

If you can join, please say so in the thread.[/quote]
As Daniel will be travelling, I’ll make the placemats. When known tell me location, people, and bottles.
I am beside myself with glee that we seem to have hauled this one out of the fire. I was starting to make other plans.
Ok, I will update the first post and combine information from recent posts when I get the time (this will not be before Sunday, especially since the Forum seems to be so exceptionally slow today and I am so exceptionally busy).
Can we get a firm steer on venue in the meantime - if it were not prohibitively upmarket that would be better, I'd like to invite a novice or two (I will provide) and I don't want to put them off with exorbitant restaurant bills. On the other hand if the majority opinion of the native New Yorkers is that we need to go a little upscale, then I'll bow to that wisdom. Some of you met Conor before, I'm going to see if he's available, also my friend Mark with whom I'll be staying.
More soon.

That would be a perfect date for me resides in New York! Very excited about finally meeting some of my port friends! Kindly let me know where and what time? About how many people do you have at these events? Thank you in advance Arlene
OK. I am trying to buy a 1985, which is the only Grahams that is available at the current Acker Internet Auction. I have generally had good luck with Port from that auction in the past. So long as one of the rest of you does not stomp on my bid, I should get that - although there is this one guy who seems to like to spike me at the last minute and if I ever find out who he is, he will be singing soprano in the Eunuch chorus at the NYC Opera when they reopen it.
