Inappropriately for the food, it had been decided to sample a recent delivery from Seckfords: Malvedos 1986, Malvedos 1987, Bomfim 1992, and Cavadinha 1992. On decanting at circa 2pm, the first bottle of WC92 smelt slightly bacterial. Not happy, so a second was decanted, the two being unimaginatively labelled #1 and #2. There was also a fraction of the previous night’s bottle of Dow 2004 crusted.
All were good. The Malvedos are not ready: still heavy with sweet fruit. I said to wait 5 years; Simon said 7 years. The DB92 and both bottles of WC92 were deliciously in their perfect drinking window, time having softened them but not yet faded them. If you have these ’92s tucked away, awaiting their moment, well, it has come.
The Ghhandis were excellent company, the children played well without much killing each other, and even the Ghhahndi dog didn’t give me a hearty. Hurray!
