Re: 1997 Vesuvio
Clear very deep dark red with vibrant red hues. There is a lot going on here. The nose is packed with jammy dark fruit, black cherry, plums but also coffee, chocolate and mint. On the palate it's sweet, with high balancing acidity, a full body, soft tannins and a long finish. The 1997 Vesuvio showed also well the next day and found it equally attractive, it has lovely concentrated sweet fruit, there is room for this wine to develop in the future and I look forward to trying it again in a few years time. 80% opacity, deep dark red. Peppery nose. Full mouthfeel, soft tannins, chocolate and pepper. Drinking very nicely!
Re: 1997 Vesuvio
V97 85% opacity. WOTN for me. I am sure the 94 will live longer, and maybe this has developed a bit faster, but it was a wonderful port. A silky smoothness accompanied by huge plummy jammy fruits. Just the right balance of fruit flavours, tannins and heat on an amazingly long wonderful finish. Yummy juice!

Re: 1997 Vesuvio
Dark red, intensely coloured and with a narrow rim. Sweet brambles on the nose; very sweet but with so much fruit showing. The sweet fruit leads the entry, a huge mouthful of fruit followed by a wave of tannins all matched by an excellent balanced acidity. Sweet fruit and freshly crushed pine needles on the finish which is of medium duration. One of the few 1997s I have had recently which will reward patience. 91/100.

V97. Dark dark red, 90% opaque. Palate mid weight, with red cherry, and heat mid-palate. Drinking nicely.
Good show for a ’97.
