I suspect, and I speak unanimously for myself on this one,

Your going to have to give me a tad more of a clue on this subject?

It's not my specialism, which is why I am looking for opinions.

It's been bugging me for a while now and I was hoping someone could come up with the answer.

Is this like my dreadful 'illegal' joke?

The saying is 'Can a Leopard change its spots'. Why would a lion want to change what it hasn't got.

Thats like when people say, 'The proofs in the Pudding' when it should be 'The proof of the Pudding will be in the eating!'

My heads beginning to hurt again...

I don't think eagles have spots, so, no, it's not about that.

The only way the pudding bit would fit in is if it were spotted dick. that definately does have spots but I don't know how you would go about changing them?

Anyway, this is going off topic so can we go back to the original question?

It would appear the answer is yes!

The site wont let me copy and paste, but read the end of the second paragraph!

Lion’s spots

www.predatorconservation.com/lion.htm wrote:Every lion has a unique pattern of whisker spots on its face and these remain the same throughout its life and this allows researchers to identify individual lions by comparing photographs to the lion being observed. This identifying trait was discovered by a researcher called Judith Rudnai, and has now become widely used as the whisker spot patterns are as unique as fingerprints are for humans. Other identifying characteristics such as spots on the nose or cuts and notches on the ears are less effective as these can change throughout the Lions life.
So yes and no.

Quite obviously the answer is clear. As the ONLY cat expert on this site I consider it a DUTY to explain.

FACT: Lions DO have spots and these are obvious when the beast is young (known as a CUB to those that don't know). They fade as the cat grows into ADULTHOOD so even the spots that don't change DO change. The spots around the face CHANGE over the animal's lifetime.

My Chocolate British Shorthair appears to be PLAIN coloured just like a lion but had stripes as a young animal (known as a KITTEN to you know-nothings), thus she is officially a tabby. Likewise, a lion is really a leopard. If you don't BELIEVE this then you clearly haven't got my level of EXPERIENCE and should do more research than simply plugging it into Google.

So, as I have explained, the answer is NO

Thank you all for your contributions.

The result of this social experiment is that we have proved that most people on this Forum have absolutely nothing useful to do and will make a conversation out of nothing.

Two people went off to research a meaningless question, one more speculated in a semi-paranoid manner in another thread whether or not he was the lion. One person actually turned out to be a world authority on the subject.

The only people who passed the test were Overtired and Emotional and (surprisingly to me) Luc.

Marvelous. I love it here, it makes me smile.

You double crossing fink!!!Image

I poured scorn on this thread. So much so you texted me and tried to explain you were bored. So feeling sympathy for you, I engaged in this odd question.

And my reward...'A couple of numpties even researched it'Image

Even I’ll admit that this moving smiley is excellent. Won’t be so when the novelty fades, but is now.

I don’t mind off topic — so the emoticon is far too pejorative — but think that OTs should be moved into their own, doubtless more exciting, thread.

Thank you Derek for your kind remark.

May I add that I had not an apostrophe out of place in, or absent from, my, admittedly small, contribution.

Let that be a lesson to the shameless apostrophe criminials who populate this site.

(I have waited for weeks to make a contribution on this subject.)

  1. You haven’t met most if us in the flesh.
  2. Normally I don’t criticise the punctuation of those whose first language isnt English. I’m nice like that. But the space between “much† and “.† wouldn’t happen in français, and not just because “much† isn’t a French word. Really!
