It's not my specialism, which is why I am looking for opinions.

Is this like my dreadful 'illegal' joke?
The saying is 'Can a Leopard change its spots'. Why would a lion want to change what it hasn't got.
Thats like when people say, 'The proofs in the Pudding' when it should be 'The proof of the Pudding will be in the eating!'

I don't think eagles have spots, so, no, it's not about that.
The only way the pudding bit would fit in is if it were spotted dick. that definately does have spots but I don't know how you would go about changing them?
Anyway, this is going off topic so can we go back to the original question?

Quite obviously the answer is clear. As the ONLY cat expert on this site I consider it a DUTY to explain.
FACT: Lions DO have spots and these are obvious when the beast is young (known as a CUB to those that don't know). They fade as the cat grows into ADULTHOOD so even the spots that don't change DO change. The spots around the face CHANGE over the animal's lifetime.
My Chocolate British Shorthair appears to be PLAIN coloured just like a lion but had stripes as a young animal (known as a KITTEN to you know-nothings), thus she is officially a tabby. Likewise, a lion is really a leopard. If you don't BELIEVE this then you clearly haven't got my level of EXPERIENCE and should do more research than simply plugging it into Google.
So, as I have explained, the answer is NO

Thank you all for your contributions.
The result of this social experiment is that we have proved that most people on this Forum have absolutely nothing useful to do and will make a conversation out of nothing.
Two people went off to research a meaningless question, one more speculated in a semi-paranoid manner in another thread whether or not he was the lion. One person actually turned out to be a world authority on the subject.
The only people who passed the test were Overtired and Emotional and (surprisingly to me) Luc.
Marvelous. I love it here, it makes me smile.
