I cracked and opened one of these. I thought that I could taste the new cork when I first opened the bottle. My other immediate response was that it could do with another ten years and it will be like the 1970. For there is a family resemblance, it is pale, slightly casky with cherries and rhubarb, but also a smokey, almost sooty taste. It is certainly more integrated and coherent with six hours decanting. I was thinking that Gman would probably feel vindicated in his assessment of the QPR of this port, but it is a testament to the gentle harmonious quality of it that I too feel vindicated in buying it. Not so very many points, but I can hardly recommend it highly enough.
