It was nice to catch up with people last night, despite the rain and the dreadful train journey home. Thanks to Mike for arranging everything, impeccably done as usual. Thanks also to everyone for bringing such a great selection of ports.

I managed 1 point in the blind bottle guessing point - which is 3 less than "the monkey" who guessed Dow 1970 for everything.

My wine of the night was a tie between the Taylor 1970 (bottled by Christopher & Co) and the Krohn 1961, with the Berry's Own Selection (Quarles Harris) 1977 being my third place wine.

Great to catch up with everyone, and to welcome Tom to his first tasting. The T70 from Alex was my WOTN.

On the evening we developed an interesting twist to guessing the port. As Alex alludes to above, we invented "the monkey", who happens to guess Dow 1970 for every port tasted blind. On this evening, the monkey scored 4. We were only able to match this, not beat it :-)

Also worth noting, for a tasting with more than ten persons, this may well be the first time everyone got at least one point!

A great night with a varied and high standard of VPs on show (not a duffer in sight). Charles fooled us in having a RV77 mag decanted into two bottles in which I then preferred one over the other (I forget which but in my defence one had been kept in the fridge!). Alex's T70 garnered my vote for the WOTN (and also overall). Surprise of the night was Wolfgang's QH75 which was a wonderful Port at its drinking peak. Service and food both very good and I suspect the D70 monkey might make another appearance just to show us up again!
