1995 Quinta do Vesuvio
Posted: 20:55 Sun 22 Oct 2017
Tasted at the Symington Family Estates presentation of their 2015 ports.
Chosen to show alongside the 2015 vintage as this was the first harvest vinified by Charles Symington. 2,900 cases produced.
Deep red with a dark brick rim, still opaque after 22 years. Sweet fruit on the nose with slightly bruised plums on the nose that still shows some restrained youthful freshness. A touch hollow on the entry showing little fruit and still with plenty of tannin in the wine. A little leather and sweet marshmallow on the late palate to accompany the fruit alongside the huge levels of tannin. Dry, ripe tannins lead on the finish with a lovely chewy finish of licorice root, ripe tannins and a huge length of amazing duration.
Charles Symington believes that this is a very good wine from an excellent vintage. 88/100. Drunk 18-May-17. Decanted 2 hours.
