1994 Quinta do Vesuvio

A deep, dark velvety red in colour; opaque at the centre but with a wide rim. A delicious nose of vibrant blackcurrants with a hint of cocoa. Big fruity impact on the palate, lots of blackcurrant with a powerful acidic core. At the heart are powerful toasted cocoa tannins and esteva perfume. This grows bigger and bigger on the palate. The aftertaste is a little dominated by the acidity but then the acidity fades to reveal the dry dark chocolate tannins and an everlasting sweet red cherry and jelly baby finish that stays on the palate for several minutes. I drank some of this last night and could still taste it the following morning. This Port is simply astonishing and lives up to its reputation.
