NV Graham Tawny 40YO (bottled 2016)

Drunk at a lunch at Vinum after a tour of the new Graham's Lodge visitors centre. Ex-cellars; bottled 2016. Burnished amber, a lovely deep orange colour; 30% opaque. Attractive honeyed nose with a touch of lime and a nice floral complexity. Burnt rhubarb dominates the entry and match the burnt sugar tones that show on the early and mid-palate. The impression is one of a port which is quite sweet but is balanced by the smokey acidity. Big on the aftertaste with lots of heat and hints of tannins. Slightly granular on the finish of sour grapefruit sweetened by crunchy brown sugar. Delicious drinking. 93/100. 20-Jun-17.
