One of the bottles from the Bonham's sale.
It has not done well, and the lot of them probably need to be rewaxed. The first two from the case were excellent, and the second two were not.
The bottle had seeped signficantly, being down to bottom shoulder, and the cork crumbled to bits; the corks seem somewhat short in these bottles, and I wonder whether that may be a cause of the relatively poor levels.
The port was almost brown when decanted, and had lost all of its fruit. It tasted almost like a Madeira, having more of a caramel flavour. Although all of the contents still made it past the gauntlet of lips and gums, it was somewhat disappointing. the third bottle of the case had been similar. It seems appropriate that the remainder of the case be checked at regular intervals.
