My first taste of this Port, courtesy of Ian Johns. Deep red in colour and still opaque in the centre. A lovely nose, really lovely, full of fruit and violets. Smooth entry, rounded and soft, bringing flowers and blackcurrants with multiple layers of flavour. Ghosts of tannins show on the late palate. All the elements combine to give a terrific balance. Gentle blackcurrant pastille dominates the aftertaste and long finish, which slowly changes to a liquorice root finish. Served blind this was guessed to be Dow Bomfim 1992. 93/100. Decanted 7 hours.
