DB65. Red-brown, 30% opaque. Very rich. Sharp heat mid-palate; nonetheless unctuous. Rich and lovely, but with a slight fragility.

A mature burnt-ochre colour, 30% opaque. Milk chocolate and juniper on the nose; allowing the Port to settle in the glass enables the nose to develop well, but only to highlight an edge of dirtiness to the fruit. The fruit on the palate is bruised initially, but develops to an intensely concentrated sweet mandarin with concentrated acidity and a thick texture. Lots of heat shows on the aftertaste, but this settles and allows a concentrated mandarin flavour to dominate although the heat never completely disappears. This is a nice Port, intensely flavoured but lacks balance and finesse. A recent release, this bottle had been recorked with an irradiated cork which collapsed into fragments when being pulled. 88/100.
