Victoria: The Queen, Julia Baird: “Queen Victoria was born, roaring, at 4:15 ᴀ.ᴍ., in the hour before dawn on May 24, 1819”.
The time convenient to us that is closest to the two hundredth anniversary of that would be the evening of Thursday 23
rd May 2019.
And we did.

D63, decanted 07:30. Glorious red, 50% opaque. After an issue with a dirty glass, this was soft, oleaginous, with some heat, and beautifully balanced.

Bottled by the Wine Society. A mature red colour; 40% opaque. Mace spiced fruit on the nose with a touch of cherry dust. Smooth, gentle and quite sweet with rounded sweet red cherry and red liquorice. A lovely mellow palate, which is full of fruit and complexity. The beautiful maturity shows on the lingering aftertaste - warm and full of toasted cherries. Long finish. This was a very fine bottle. 92/100.
