Computer tasting notes - IBM electronic tongue

IBM have started talking about their e-tongue device which will use 'AI' to 'taste' liquids. Who needs to make tasting notes when a computer does it for you?

All mocking aside, it could be very interesting. It will have to first build up a library of known tastes (I suggest that IBM train it on TPF's flawless tasting notes) but after that, it could work quite well.

I once invested in a start-up company that was making an electronic nose, but had no idea that anyone was working on an electronic tongue. I guess the technology is more or less the same.

Interesting article.

Another interesting recent paper which looks at using an artificial tongue to detect fake whiskey. The methods discussed could easily be adapted to Port as well I believe.

In case the above doesn't work, I believe this is open access version (can't check myself) http://eprints.gla.ac.uk/189433/
