1977 Berry's Own Selection
Shipped by Quarles Harris. Decanted 1230, consumed 1830-2230. Glorious garnet colour. Fine legs. On the front palate a hint of poached plums in a spiced syrup (hint of star anise?). And with a rather lovely peppery note on the finish. Very good port. #1 WOTN. Tasted 21/05/19

From Quarles Harris. Gorgeous mature red rose colour, 60% opaque. Mature spiced fruit on the wonderful nose. Soft, smooth entry which is full of fruit but also has a lightness and elegance to it. A gentle dusting of tannins and a delightful fleetness of foot give a lovely palate. Nice grip on the aftertaste, then a great strawberry finish with a very good length. A lovely, elegant and delicate Port (but not delicate in a bad way). Served blind, I was convinced this had the elegance of Warre and the magical combination of power and maturity of the 1970 vintage. 89/100.
