15% opacity, copper-amber, clear though with some hanging particles. Wonderful nose, rich and sweet, cherries and cranberries. Smooth and syrupy entry, great balance, still sweetness in the fruit but with a little dryness to the fruit in the finish which also has very gentle citric acidity. Really elegant mature port which is on the plateau and seems like could be there for some time.

Ex-cellars bottle from Quinta do Cachão, courtesy of Miguel Perreira at a tasting organised by Tony Carter of Vintage Wine & Port. Miguel confirmed that the Quinta do Cachão Ports only use grapes from the quinta. By contrast, Messias labelled wines use grapes from both the quintas owned by the family.

Pale copper red colour, 20% opaque. Red fruit pastilles on the nose, soft and sweet. Lovely sweet fruit with lots of red liquorice laces; very secondary but beautifully balanced. Hints of coffee and rose petals. So fragrant! The wine has a wonderful texture with black liquorice on the aftertaste, which fades to a lovely bitter liquorice root and burnt sugar. Such an elegant Port. 90/100. 23-Oct-19. Decanted 6 hours.
