I just joined this forum, so I'd like to say hello to you all...
A while ago I tried my first bottle of Port and ever since I've been hooked. Searching on the internet I found loads of information and stumbled upon this forum.
I've been trying several (standard) types to find out which Port suits my tastes best and I can say that it is Tawny. Among the older Ports my favourite so far is Messias 10 Anos (hence my username). A Kopke L.B.V. 2003 will soon be opened (this weekend?) and a Dow's Colheita 1996 is patiently awaiting my birthday...

10Anos,
Welcome aboard, great to have you. If you're on a Port learning curve, I'm sure it will be enhanced by some of the guys on here. And I'm sure we'll all learn a bit as we go along,
(And even if we dont, hopefully it'll be a laugh!)

Hi DosAnos - great username.
Its interesting to see your choices of ports so far, a good range of styles.
I'm based in the UK - whereabouts in the world are you?

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Even though I chose a Portuguese username (it simply happened to be the name of my favourite Port so far) I am Dutch. I do have some Portuguese colleagues, though, and they did play a role in my trying Port, or vinho do Porto as they call it. Ten is 'dez' in Portuguese.
My very first bottle was a Tawny from a supermarket-brand (Sea Lord) bottled by Symington Family Estates, but it was good enough for me to become interested. As a result I started reading about Port and tasting different brands and types and keep some notes for myself.
As Conky said, I am indeed at the beginning of a learning curve. I have already tried a variety of standard Tawnies, Rubies and Whites (from famous as well as unknown brands) and a few aged Tawnies. I just tried the Kopke L.B.V. 2003 (bottled in 2007) , my first L.B.V. I'm not going to say what I think about that one just yet because often I have to revise my initial impression after a second tasting. Suffice to say that the Messias 10 Anos is still my favourite, for now...
