Ex-cellars bottle from Quinta do Cachão, courtesy of Miguel Perreira at a tasting organised by Tony Carter of Vintage Wine & Port.

Deep red with an opaque centre. A little fruit on the nose, ripe and sweet. Closed on entry, a little fruit and pronounced tanins. The fruit does show through, but the tannins dominate and the Port is out of balance. Sour cherries on the aftertaste with dry edges and a long sour cherry finish. Not fair to score the wine this evening, one to leave for at least 10 years.

A sample taken home and drunk 2 days later had softened and opened out to offer a deeply flavoured, rich and smooth Port with plenty of potential.
89/100. Tasted 23-Oct-19. Decanted 10 hours.
