RV55. Red pink, 25% opaque. Burnt plastic, very dry mid palate, some red cherry behind. The late palate is much superior, having sweet maraschino cherry.

20% opacity, red brown. Ice cream, vanilla on the nose. Soft and smooth entry, very light heat late palate, caramel and vanilla. I gave this some points, but when I returned later, it was less impressive.

A fine mature burnished copper-red colour, 30% opaque. Slightly mineralised fruit on the nose, with sweeter fruit under the mineral layer. Medium bodied on the palate with a dry core, the fruit beginning to dry out. The mid- and late-palate shows the fruit with more clarity, the fruit growing and eventually dominating. The aftertaste highlights the elegance of the fruit and the wine, with a very good red liquorice finish. This is currently unbalanced, but many 1955 Ports are and may be going through a down phase in their evolution. Have patience, this has a lot of good points which may just need another year or two to come together again. 91/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
