@forest26 - That is a remarkably extensive list of 1980s. You can, I think, reasonably assume that where someone else has the port then you won't be called upon to provide it for adoption. That still might, as at instant date, leave you supplying Barros, Burmester, Kopke, Fonseca, and Smith Woodhouse but the likelihood is we will chip that list down over the next nine months. Thank you!

Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Checked and have nothing - pretty sure there was in the past...

Plans afoot for D & W acquisition but suspect that won't help much, so will probably need to adopt.

@CMAG - thank you. If you are looking in the market, please could you look to pick up one of Borges, Calem Foz, Ferreira, Offley Boa Vista, Quarles Harris or Ramos Pinto?

[We are currently missing from the list the following wines of which I am aware:

1. Borges
2. Calem Foz
3. Delaforce Corte
4. Ferreira
5. Hutcheson
6. Offley Boa Vista
7. Quarles Harris (in bottle; we have been offered a magnum which is extremely generous but which I would prefer to enable the owner to save opening for another occasion)
8. Ramos Pinto
9. Real Vinicola
10. Real Companhia Velha

However we already have 16 16 bottles (plus the magnum, were we to accept it). I consider 18 ideal and 21 an absolute limit. So, pruning ongoing.

(a) I will check with CPR 1 whether the Berry's Own selection is the same blend as the Warre VP and if so I suggest we drop it.
(b) I will check in my own cellar whether the Royal Oporto is a Colheita or not (my cellar diary is unclear) and if it is a Colheita I will drop it. [Checked: The Royal Oporto is a full VP]
(c) The Delaforce Corte and Hutcheson have poor reputations and I propose we ignore them.
(d) Real Vinicola & Real Companhia Velha ports from this vintage I have no data on.]

Charles, that's prompt, helpful and conclusive. Thank you. I will remove that one from the list. It is thus looking very likely you will be asked to provide the Sandeman.

I'd quite like an excuse to get the Roeda out of storage...

Each of the below have proffered bottles already in their possession. I would like to enable them to drink some of their 1980s, rather than holding them for a tasting nine months away for which proffered bottles may or may not be required. Accordingly, I set out a provisional requests list below. To those of you who have proffered bottles, the first-named bottles would ideally be provided by you with any other mentioned below proffered for adoption. As others check what they have the need for some of these adoption bottles will fall away.

@ Doggett - please could you bring the Dow
@ idj123 - provisionally, please could you bring the Graham, together with the Warre for adoption by nac
@ flash_uk - provisionally, please could you bring the Gould Campbell
@ AHB - happy to provide you with an excuse; provisionally, please could you bring the Croft Roeda, together with Taylor for adoption by hadge
@ forest26 - provisionally, please could you bring the Barros, together with Burmester, Kopke, Fonseca for adoption
@ CPR1 - provisionally, please could you bring the Sandeman, together with the Niepoort for adoption
@ DaveRL - provisionally, please can you bring the Offley Boa Vista, together with the Smith Woodhouse for adoption by akzy
@ M.Charlton - please could you bring the Burmester.
@ self - bringing Noval Nacional, together with Royal Oporto for adoption (the latter only possibly, if result of check reveals it as a VP)

Unfortunately I don't own any 1980. Depending on George's preference for determining the lineup early, I can adopt from someone else or set out on purchasing from the shopping list.

I am more or less agnostic on adoption vs shopping list. Given the number of adoptions possible, I am slightly in favour of attendees being adopters at this point, assuming none of the adoptees get work-crunched nearer the time and have to drop out.

@jdaw1, please bring Taylor, thank you.

@Hadge, @CPR1, may I propose you as adoptive partners with Hadge adopting the Niepoort from CPR1.

@AHB- you may now stand down on the Taylor front and just bring the Croft Roeda.

Dear Friends, I have been in intensive discussions over the last couple of days with the B&F about whether there is any way we can make this tasting work on 24th November, but I am afraid the logistics have defeated us. Roll on the vaccine.
