Rosemount Old Benson

Post by KillerB »

I was in the bar at the hotel last night and saw this sticky-looking bottle on the back. I asked what it was and took a look, it claimed to be "Fine Old Tawny Port" despite being obviously antipodean. It was in a half litre bottle shaped like the Otima bottles.

"OK, how much is it?"
"$9 per glass"
"Bloody Hell, it better be good"
"Oh, it says here that it's $22 for the bottle"
"Gimme the bottle"

It had one of those horrible plastic corks - yeuch.

Light colored for an average 10yot and quite a light consistency. Nose was raisiny. In the mouth it was a good tongue-coater with a lovely feel. Raisins again with some milk chocolate. Not special but very pleasant and I have the remainder of the bottle in my room. Excellent value from a hotel bar at $22 per bottle, not so good at $9 per glass. I'm happy.
Port is basically a red drink
