I enjoyed our tasting on Wednesday 25th very much and it would be fabulous if another could be arranged. I'm happy to host on Zoom again. If I floated Weds 1 April or Tuesday 7 April, how would one of these suit for folks?

  2. Star Guest: Oscar Quevedo
  3. CPR
  4. AHB
  5. JDAW
  6. GEAG

Yes please. I couldn't do Wednesday 1st, the toad work. Tuesday 7th April I would be there, with my port ready-decanted and an expectant expression. I might even put on a dinner jacket although, alas, no cat will be available to assist me with the tasting.

Yes please, either date works, for some reason my diary is empty at the moment.

Yes please. Both dates work for me, although I am trying to have three dry days per week so Tuesday 7th would be preferred. But if my arm were to be twisted I would make an exception for both dates.

Damn, I've gone too soon - I've just decanted!
(Tues 7th might work also ;)

Either, or both.

Based on last time, my reckoning is that we need the guessing page of the placemats, and only that page. Did the other attendees agree?

OK, so far:
1st:CPR, JDAW, MPM, AHB(arm twisted)
7th:GEAG, PW, NAC, CPR, JDAW, MPM, AHB

It would seem that the 7th is a shoe in. Invite on the way.

The 1st is now looking tricky for me so I’d prefer to pass if that’s OK with folks?

7th and not the 1st works for me. I might see if someone from Portugal would like to join us, if that's OK

Tuesday April 7 might actually work for me. I have Zoom but do not have a camera, so I might have to be a voice-only participant.

Or more correctly, I have 2 cameras (both very old) and approximately 23986710948 USB Type A-to-something else cables but precisely 0 USB Type A-to-USB Type A cables. You'd think those would be everywhere, but alas that does not seem to be the case in my house.

Too much paperwork there I think? A wine of the night sheet is included - we only need “What is it?”

Can I suggest that in honour of our mystery guest we adopt a theme of "Open a bottle of Quevedo Port, if you can."

I can, and am perfectly happy to do so, but I submit that what I open will likely be too obvious to count in the evening's point tally.

I think it might be more fun for our guest to guess a range of whatever we open just as one of us, rather than all being his own wines tbh (unless it was his own but he didn't know ofc). Just my 2p though.

I was working on the assumption that most of us would not have a Quevedo Port at home and would have to open something else (Neil - anything that is Port would qualify, if you have no Quevedo). That way we would give Oscar a nice balance between being able to talk about his own Ports, and effectively give us a sort-of tutored tasting, and him having to guess what we're drinking in the way that everyone else is.

Does this make more sense?

"Will" or "Bill," in accordance with others' preferences; most call me Bill. "William" conjures visions in my mind of short pants and propeller beanies.

At 1800 tomorrow (& finishing at approx 1845), 67 Pall Mall are holding a free-for-all virtual tasting with Jasper Morris MW. The theme is Red Burgundy 09 vs 10.

Further detail here:

The link to join via Zoom:

I'm intending to partake as an aperitif to our tasting, and Mrs NAC and I have our Dujac Chambolle-Musigny 09 & 10 ready to go.

Anyone else fancy it?

If so, ignore the 20 max on the invite. There's now no limit.

0630 decant, also with positive QA. Indeed, some effort required to stop myself pouring a full measure...

I have a printer - although I would require careful supervision, having never met any of the participants and being unsure, at this point, of the object of the exercise beyond convivial drinking. At any rate, I shall stand by to be pressed into service.

Convivial drinking very very important. Subsidiary objective can be seen in the likes of this post (names of wines in left column; names of guessers in top row; returning officer enters guesses one guesser at a time; when all guessed bottles revealed; point for correct year + point for correct shipper; totalling confirms that most of us are rubbish guessers).

Got it. If there is nobody better qualified (which would be anyone else), I shall give it a go. Could you (J) email me the forms and, if possible, send me a link to the port shipper abbreviations, which I know to be somewhere on this website? Also, at what time do we start? I was thinking 1930hrs though would appear to have screwed up already my first tasking (i.e., arriving on time).

I must confess I didn’t check but assumed (wrongly) that it was the same as last time. I will be there for 1900 after seeing if I can learn some of Jasper Morris’ wisdom, taking advantage of the info that Neil posted.
