Presented at Virtual Tasting #3 on 21st April 2020
First bottle from a case of 12 purchased March 2020 via the WineOwners.com exchange.
Level was well into neck and cork came out without any drama (made first use of a Durand - a 50th birthday gift from a generous friend).
Upon opening didn't smell or taste good. An unpleasant sourness.
Following a 6 hour decant, 30% opaque, very pale red, but not any browning or tawny colour.
Not much on the nose. Possibly reminds one of a 10yo tawny. Some dried fruit - maybe figs? Definitely more pleasant than at opening.
Much more in the mouth. Again dry fruit - orange and some spice. Slight sourness, but again significantly improved from opening. Not particularly sweet, very little tannin, medium+ length, and generally in balance.
A pleasant enough drink, but probably a duff bottle. Suspect past its peak and needs drinking up. Must try another bottle soon (preferably with physical company)...
