1970 Quinta do Noval

At Virtual Tasting #6 on Tuesday 2nd June 2020
The first of four identical looking bottles (so assumed to be from the same case) purchased via the WineOwners platform in January 2018. Level was base of neck (the other bottles are all well into neck), and decanted for seven hours prior to drinking.
Cork was extremely tight so had to use a Durand to remove it, so was then unable to make out the very faint printing.
Very pale salmon colour, at most 20% opacity, nice and clean. Maybe more development than I'd expect for a 70?
Initial hit of spirit on the nose, followed by savoury notes, leather, cedar and orange.
In the mouth the spirit came through a bit strong, but balance just maintained. Nice soft tannin and the savoury notes from the nose repeated. Very long.
Pretty good and no need to rush to finish up. Looking forward to sharing the other bottles post Zombie Apocalypse.
