1992 Dalva Colheita (bottled 2017)

Post by winesecretary »

Bottled 2017.

+ 2 hours.

Pale mahogany, greenish rim.

Nose rather dumb and fiery but hazelnuts and orange peel can be discerned.

On the palate herbs and and a big burst of clementine- like someone spritzing a segment of it across a glass of gin.

Long finish reminiscent of good quality orange marmalade on warm, unbuttered, sourdough toast [this may sound like a jeu d'esprit, but it was so marked I actually went and cross referenced [Frank Cooper's and Poilane] to confirm before posting. Very nice it was too.].

Perhaps a touch paler, light-affected mahogany.

Nose still remarkably dumb. A little hazelnut, and acetone, with deep inhalation.

The clementine element even more pronounced on the palate, and very pleasant. Not massively port-like but very drinkable.

Shorter but pleasant marmalade finish.

I should have drunk this up yesterday.

This is now very pleasant, but in no way exceptional wine. Bottled at 25 years old it is a world away from the 1934 house colheita bottled at 39 years old.

Consumed 7/6/2020-9/6/20.
