A cask sample in half bottle tasted over the course of four days to allow the wine to show its full potential. Deep purple in colour with a narrow rim. Sweet blueberries on the nose. Poised and balanced entry, with the sweet fat fruit very nicely balanced by a pronounced ground peppercorn; plenty of acidity keeping the wine focused and balanced. Soft and rounded tannins virtually hidden by the black fruit. Lively aftertaste, with savoury tones in the long black fruit gum finish. Wonderfully restrained and balanced yet with a big core of sweet black fruit. Good persistence of the tannins on the palate and aftertaste. Very fine and ripe. This is a nice Port which will mature and develop in the cellar nicely but will also be approachable at an early age. 88-90/100.
