New to Port - Recommendation please

Post by Newporter »

Hi everyone, thanks for accepting my registration. I have read through a few fantastic topics but was hoping I could get some advice on which port you would recommend for an enthusiast. One of my clients sent me a post project gift and I was hoping to return the favour. I know he is a Port enthusiast so my question is which bottle would you recommend in the £50.00 - £100.00 range. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. I was considering the 1985 Taylor's Fladgate Vintage Port but am open to suggestions.

There is a huge amount of choice in that price range but I don’t think you can go far wrong with a 1985 Taylor: it’s a vintage port from one the first-tiers of Port companies, so it will be obviously a thoughtful gift to any fan of Port; and the 1985 can either be drunk and enjoyed now or be kept for several more decades.

I agree with Jacob. The Taylor 1985 Vintage Port is a great bottle to choose and is relatively easy to find.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
